Dr. JoAnn Samora-Mata began her health care career as a nurse. She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Texas Women's University, and her certification as an Ob/Gyn Nurse Practitioner in the Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program at Harbor General Hospital at UCLA. During her career in nursing, she worked in intensive care and public health as well as an Ob/Gyn Nurse Practitioner.
Dr. Samora-Mata earned her M.D. at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She completed her residency in the Ob/Gyn department at Baylor College of Medicine, and a fellowship under Dr. Joseph R. Feste and the Society of Reproductive Surgeons. She is board certified by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
She was selected Chief Resident in Ob/Gyn at Baylor, recieved the Best Resident of the Year Award, and was named Resident Class Representative at Baylor. The UT Medical Branch recognized her with several awards and honors including the Gold-Headed Cane Finalist; Paul Curtis Hooks Award, and the Community Service Award.
